I've just about got time to enter my piece into this fortnight's Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge 11. I must confess I've been watching Strictly Come Dancing on the TV, instead of finishing my project. The technique chosen by the Curiosity Crew this time is, 'Effect Powders'. All the details for this, can be found on page 52 of Tim's fabulous Compendium of Curiosities Volume 3. The Challenge this week is very generously sponsored by Inspiration Emporium. There's also whole bunch of fab goodies supplied by Tim and Mario for the Crew's choice. I've made a Halloween themed canvas, and have used the Effect Powders on the lamp, trellis, raven and tree branches. it's great for creating a rusted finish and I've enhanced it with metallic paste and alcohol ink.
The substrate for this piece is something that I'm sure will be re-occurring in my work. I found a roll of hessian wallpaper, circa 1970 something, tucked away in our 'junk' room, I remember my husband had said paper on one of the walls in his living room when I first met him. I remember thinking how cool it was. Now all these years later it's serving to be pretty cool all over again, but not on the walls! x

Wow lovely work !!! Yes the hessian is great to use in mix media...
ReplyDeleteCan I ask how you created that fabulous rusty looking finish on your lantern !??? It's gorgeous.. I understood that you used Special Effect emb powder.did you paint before adding emb powder ? The alchohol ink you mentioned was for the glass ??
Thanks a lot for sharing.
Hugs from Monica... Spain
Fabulous autumnal piece, the lantern and pumpkin look brilliant grouped together like that, wonderful composition, a beautiful make!
ReplyDeleteThis really is an amazing creation Toni, I love how you transformed the hessian into a brick wall - the lantern is just fabulous and the pumpkin is incredible. I love every single bit of this!! Anne xx
ReplyDeleteToni...this is awesome! Your EP technique on the lantern is AH-MAZING! It really looks like rusted metal! Love it and the dimensional amber-ish colored glass globe inside! Your pumpkin is also beautifully done. Love the shading and the dimension you've given to it. The twine at the bottom wrapped around your canvas is a nice touch as is the brick background. And...the tree branches with the spooky old crown sitting atop them is the perfect embellishment for that side of your canvas. Love it! Thanks for sharing with us at CC3C. <3 Candy
ReplyDeleteOh WOW! And now I need that lantern die! You've used it perfectly here with the effect powders. Superb work again. Jenny x
